Ascent is the 4th map in VALORANT, a 5v5 competitive character-based tactical FPS, a possible CSGO killer. Although the new map was long awaited, as well as some say needed, it comes with major flaws which retracts from the game being balanced.
The Reason Why Ascent Sucks:
It comes down to the middle of the map, in between A and B, also called “well.” Essentially, the team that wins mid, wins the round. This is because of how many locations you can go from mid. You can go through Bell Tower to B Main, Bench into Mid-Market, or Bench into CT, to easily attack B and catch the opponent from multiple sides. It’s the same thing with A, you can go through Boiler to Tree, go up Balcony to get an easy peak on heaven, or through garden to check CT as well as rotations from B, then into Heaven.
So mid is OP, why does that make it unfair?
There’s too much open space, therefore making it a pure aim battle. Although some players may like this, the game isn’t entirely about aim. There are very few abilities that are used while contesting for mid, the main one being smokes.
